Thailand Medical Tourism Readiness

Overview

Thailand Medical Tourism is one of the fastest-growing fields in the world. In recent years, Thailand has emerged as one of the leading tourist destinations. There has been a radical growth in the number of medical facilities, both in Bangkok & along the East Coast. Most of the hospitals and surgical centers are fully equipped to handle emergency surgery. However, even with this much technology and experience, accidents do happen. To prevent unwanted mishaps, Thailand doctorsupdated surgical techniques and cared for patients after surgical procedures.

Cosmetic surgery, such as breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and liposuction, can be performed under an experienced cosmetic surgeon’s supervision. Also, there are a host of other cosmetic procedures, including rhinoplasty and facelifts. Thailand’s tourism industry is booming, and there has been a noticeable increase in overseas hospitals. However, with so many potential surgeons out of work, Thailand is lagging in Surgical cosmetics in Thailand.

Many Thai hospitals have some sort of certification program in cosmetic surgery, but because Thailand lacks a specialized training program, many surgeons are not certified. While this might not matter to patients who travel to Thailand to have operations, it could matter very much in the case of emergencies. For instance, say a patient was born in the United States and had his ears cut out by accident.

Problems for Outsiders

The problem is that most of the available foreign surgeons have at least a year or two of experience operating on U.S. patients. Besides, many surgeons may also speak English perfectly, making communication a challenge, especially if you are from the United Kingdom. Of course, you will want to get your surgery in Thailand, where most people speak English. However, the number of surgeons who speak English and capable of communicating with patients decreases every year. It makes Thailand a less desirable destination for medical tourism and hurts Thailand’s Medical Tourism Readiness. There have been growing numbers of people traveling to other countries searching for the best plastic surgeons in Thailand.

Another setback is that medical school graduates from abroad are not choosing employment in Thailand’s medical field. As a result, many of these trained doctors end up working in low-paid places and then traveling back to their home countries to earn more money. It leads to a skills shortage in Thailand and decreases its Medical Tourism Readiness. Foreign doctors wanting to open private clinics in Thailand need to be realistic about their service quality.

Unfortunately, many low-paid, unqualified doctors who leave Thailand for other countries cannot provide quality care for the patients they leave behind. Hospitals in Bangkok and Phuket suffer from a lack of adequately qualified staff members, and there are not enough hospitals to meet the needs of the population. If these patients were to come to a Thailand hospital, they would likely still require many of the same medical treatments they would have received had they gone to an overseas hospital.

Some hospitals in Thailand receive and treat patients who come from overseas countries. These hospitals work hard to ensure that their Thai counterparts’ standards are at the very least equal to those offered by the foreign hospitals the patients have left. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Many foreign hospitals have inferior standards, and many based medical centers refuse to accept patients or refer them back to their home country.

While medical tourism does offer an alternative for patients who need medical care outside of their own country, it can be a problem. Thailand is a safe destination for tourists. Unfortunately, there are not enough hospitals and medical facilities to provide for the medical needs of the foreign patients who land here. The best path of deed is to be honest with the doctors who help you out of Thailand. Tell them about your overall health before the trip, and let them know what you expect to get out of the medical tourism experience. Thailand is an excellent destination for medical tourism, but you need to be aware of what you may be exposing yourself to when you take your trip.
